Hello friends!
World Maker Faire is right around the corner and we can’t seem to contain our excitement! For those of you who don’t know, Maker Faire is the Greatest Show (and Tell) on Earth—a family-friendly festival where invention, creativity and resourcefulness come together to do wonders.
To tell you guys a bit more, Maker Faire was launched back in 2006 in the Bay Area by the staff of Make: magazine. The idea was to give people a space where they could demonstrate the use of new technologies, participate in hands-on activities and learn new skills at the event. But the event wasn’t just limited to tech innovators – Maker Faire featured innovation and experimentation across the spectrum of science, engineering, art, performance, and craft. And once the tech-influenced, grassroots, DIY community got together, it started a whole new movement which identifies today as the “Maker movement”. Ever since then, Maker Faire flagship events happen every year in the Bay Area and New York City and forty larger scale Maker Faires occur in cities around the world like Berlin, Paris, Rome, Tokyo, and Shenzhen to name a few.
As per schedule, the 9th annual World Maker Faire is happening in New York on the 22nd and 23rd of September 2018. A lot of well-known people from the tech world have been invited to give speaker sessions and to demonstrate their masterpieces. Sophy Wong will be showing her range of period costumes and Arduino-driven wearable tech. The Exploding Kittens card game’s co-creator Elan Lee will be one of the headline speakers as well. Youtubers like Kevin Kohler, Laura Kampf and many others will also be showcasing their magic at the Maker Faire. Moreover, this DIY fest will feature the largest needle-felted T-Rex, maker-made by the Woolbuddy crew, standing at 10 feet tall!! The best part? This is just a teensy bit of what’s there to be seen.
Are you coming close to understanding now why we’re so excited about Maker Faire? Well, we haven’t even shared the big news with you yet. So, guess what?! DOT has been accepted to showcase at the World Maker Faire and we’re beyond thrilled! Imagine being a part of the world’s largest tech and DIY festival and getting a spot to demonstrate our headsets in front of thousands of people. We feel like our CEO Yishel’s dreams are finally coming true and we could not have been happier.
We’re hoping to meet many of you in September and also hoping to deliver what we’ve promised.
Until then, goodbye and happy Sunday!
