Month of April was spent with a lot of dry shampoo, limited water and fluctuating power toasting my electronics. Earlier on, I never really thought of how difficult it could be to maintain focus with such administrative issues around you.
I went back to Pakistan to outsource some of the development. I’ll circle back to that in a bit, but let’s fill in the gaps from my last update.
Expert Forum, March 7th – I met with several competent candidates here in Houston, one will be joining us soon. We also cultivated some really interesting conversations and formed new advisors for DOT.
Then there was Austin SXSW from March 10th -14th followed by MedTech Innovators on March 31st where we were the finalist for paediatric innovation competition and invited to pitch in San Diego in September as well as named one of the top 100 companies.
All of this sounds so great and phenomenal. But is it really?
Sometimes all the verbal traction leads to a false sense of achievement that creates a false illusion of ‘success’ in our heads. Was the development progressing? No. Some great connections were formed but these relationships need to be nurtured, just like watering a plant regularly, to turn into something substantial.
Frustrated, realizing DOT has not really been progressing. We were stuck in this vicious circle: We needed funding to hire developers, development was halted due to lack of resources which meant we can’t hire which meant development would suffer which meant we can’t get funding because we lacked development- frustrating isn’t it?
After several sleepless nights, I remember calling my father at 3 am one night to discuss this new venture that dawned upon me- I should outsource some of my development. I am blessed to have such a supportive family. They immediately helped me find the right resources in Pakistan prior to my arrival to be able to efficiently make use of my time there.
Working there was a new monster to tackle in itself. The work ethics and mindset of people are very different from what I have had exposure to. I had to learn a whole new set of interpersonal skills and I had to learn them fast. Having said that, the talent, skill set and dedication of people there is truly exceptional and inspiring. The people I worked with became like family to me very quickly.
Onto more concrete news, our game is underway and will be released very soon- keep a look out for Squiggles.
We also raised 8K through Kiva last month and have begun prepping for our Kickstarter Campaign! A very warm THANK YOU to all those who contributed.
I would like to request you to spread the word and help us get further traction for our upcoming crowdfunding campaign.
More great news to come very soon.
