We at DOT claim that our headset is going to help you become more efficient, increase your productivity and better your concentration with the help of an app. But you’re probably wondering how exactly does that happen? Let us and experts across the globe explain it to you!
Every time you have a thought or a feeling, your brain produces electrical signals corresponding to that thought or feeling. These signals are called brainwaves. Brainwaves are measured in hertz (cycles per second) and they are divided into bands delineating slow, moderate, and fast waves.
Infra-Low brainwaves (less than 0.5HZ) play a major role in brain timing and network function. Delta brainwaves(0.5-3 HZ) suspend external awareness and are the source of empathy. Theta brainwaves(3-8 HZ) are our gateway to learning, memory, and intuition. Alpha brainwaves(8-12 HZ) aid overall mental coordination, calmness, alertness, mind/body integration and learning. Beta brainwaves (12-38 HZ) are present when we are alert, attentive, engaged in problem solving, judgment, decision making, or focused mental activity. Lastly, Gamma brainwaves(38-42 HZ) modulate perception and consciousness.
Now that we know how the brain works, let’s talk about how these brainwaves are monitored. The recording and deciphering of the brainwaves is called electroencephalography (EEG). To perform EEG, an electrode cap is fixed on a shaved head with gel all over the scalp and hundreds of tiny wires attached to the cap. The results? Not very aesthetically pleasing. Comfort level? Negative. Additionally, the process takes way too long and is only accessible in medical clinics. Hence, too many resources being used with bare minimum being produced. So now what?
Fortunately, we live in the 21st century and have people among us who want to change the conventional ways of doing things. Enter DOT. Our team realized that EEG could be altered. Instead of using hundreds of sensors attached to a large and heavy electrode cap, fewer sensors could be used with wireless technology, producing similar results. That’s how the idea of DOT’s wearable headset came into existence.
But what about the app? What would the app do? A research paper titled “Analyzing EEG waves to support the design of serious games for cognitive training” was published in the Journal of Ambient Intelligence and Humanized Computing in which a research was conducted to experiment how specific mechanics involved in platform video games activate electroencephalogram (EEG) waves. The main purpose of the experiment was to see if certain game mechanics involve changes in brain activity on the cortical surface through video-game playing. The results were positive and that’s where we took our inspiration to design the DOT app.
Our team similarly came up with several games which improve cognitive abilities such as improved focus, concentration and efficiency. We also developed a tracking mechanism to keep a track of progress made by the users.
So isn’t it cool that all that technology is being made accessible to you by DOT? The DOT headset and app enables you to improve your concentration level and focus be it at work, school or during daily chores. Your ability to achieve mental clarity and to empower yourself is not a dream anymore, it’s a reality that you can achieve.
